From 1966 to 1979, he represented the Indian national cricket team, during which he came up as one of the best spin bowlers in cricket history. He had been a part of Indian cricket’s golden quartet of spinners, along with Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, Erapalli Prasanna, and Srinivas Venkataraghavan. He was the manager of the Indian cricket team for a short period of time in 1990 during tours of England and New Zealand.
