Noted singer Sudakshina Sarma passed away at the age of 89 after experiencing age-related ailments, doctors said. She was the younger sister of Assam’s icon Bhupen Hazarika. She was saved by a daughter while her husband and two sons had predeceased her. She was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in the ICU on 23rd June as she was suffering from bed sores and pneumonia.
She was well and shifted to a cabin, but her condition got worse again on Sunday night and she died at 8:25 pm on Monday, according to Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sharma. For medical research, the singer had donated her body and eyes, he added. The singer’s body will be taken to her residence for her family to pay their last respects. Later in the day, the body will be handed over to GMCH, the official said.
